Fuel prices will be decreasing again in September, the Department of Energy announced today. Price adjustments will be implemented at midnight on Tuesday 6 September with the new prices effective from Wednesday.
According to the department, the fuel price was cushioned by about 22 cents per litre thanks to the strengthening of the Rand against the US Dollar. Furthermore the department noted that the average increase in the prices of petrol and decrease in the prices of diesel also contributed to the fuel price adjustment.
“The Basic Fuel Price (BFP) of diesel decreased by about six cents while that of petrol increased by about 25 cents during the same period. This could explain why the diesel over recovery is higher than the petrol over recovery. The overall effect on the fuel prices locally has been outweighed by the strengthening of the Rand to the US Dollar,” added the department.
