Orange opens a store in Cape Town

Orange mobile has opened a new store in Cape Town.

2 July 2015 · Staff Writer

Orange, a mobile network operator from the United Kingdom, has opened a store in Cape Town, bringing more options and potential cheaper prices to South African customers.

In addition to offering consumers a wide range of the latest gadgets and accessories, the store will also offer click-and-collect facilities, act as a drop-off point for repairs and returns, act as a point of sale for Orange’s Top-Up products and provide customer service for Orange’s travel products.

These travel products are offer advantages to South Africans travelling abroad who wish to take care of their communication requirements before departing.

“The opening of a physical store is a logical step for us,” explained Orange Horizons CEO Sébastien Crozier.

Crozier said that due to the overwhelming response from the online Orange store it led to a local warehouse being established to service this market.

“We therefore have sufficient stock levels to justify the opening of our first retail store in the country,” said Crozier.

He went on to say that having a physical retail presence in the country not only offers an improved experience for their consumers, but facilitates for further growth into the region.

Opening specials

“To celebrate the occasion, Orange is offering exclusive opening specials on a wide range of the latest tech gadgets, for a limited time,” said Orange.
The following specials will be available in the store, which is situated on Dreyer Street:
  •  Xperia Z3 Compact (Black) at R4 999
  • Google Chromecast at R 599
  • Sony PS4 at R5 299
  • Huawei P8 Lite at R3 299
  • Motorola Moto E 2nd Gen at R1 799
  • Microsoft Lumia 535 at R1 399
  • Hipstreet Aurora 2 – Buy 2, get 1 free
  • Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen, Dual Sim, non-LTE) and get free Motorola Shell
  • Buy an LG G4, and get the LG G Watch R for only R2 999
  • Buy any Samsung Smartphone and receive 10% off the purchase of a Samsung tablet. (Does not have to be purchased at the same time)
  • Buy any Huawei Smartphone and pay only R499 for the Huawei E5330
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, 7” WiFi + 3G at R2,499
  • Orange opended its doors to the public on June 26 in Dreyer Street, Claremont, Cape Town.
But is Orange cheaper?

The Orange online store has been hailed as being cheaper for their mobile products, but will the store in Claremont, Cape Town hold true to that?

With the store only having just opened, and offering special prices on all their devices, it is difficult to tell how the store’s ‘normal’ prices will compare.

But, their special prices do seem to be cheaper. For example, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (Black) on Takealot is selling for R8 499 compared to Orange’s R4 999.

The same can be said for the Microsoft Lumia 535, which Takealot is selling for R2 199 but is available through Orange at R1,399.

Time will tell if Orange can continue to offer these deals to its customers.
