Petrol price decreases on Wednesday

Fuel prices will be dropping on Wednesday 1 September, the Department of Energy announced on Friday.
 
“All petroleum products prices will decrease with effect from the 2 September 2015. The decrease in the prices of all the petroleum products is due mainly to the continued drop in the crude oil prices during the period under review. The price of Brent crude dropped to about $46.93 (R625.37) per barrel (on average) due mainly to global supply glut (oversupply),” revealed the Department of Energy.
 
The price adjustments are as follows:

• Both 93 and 95 unleaded petrol will decrease by 69 cents per litre.
• There will be a drop of 54 cents per litre for 0.05% sulphur diesel, and a drop of 51 cents per litre for 0.01% sulphur diesel.
• Illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will decrease by 55 cents a litre, while wholesale illuminating paraffin will drop by 74 cents per litre.
• The maximum retail price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will decrease by 115 cents per kilogram.

 
“The Minister of Energy, Tina Joemat-Pettersson has approved an increase in the retail margin of petrol of 4.6 cents per litre to cater for the salary increase of nine percent for pump attendants and cashiers in line with the Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO) agreement of September 2013. This money must be ring-fenced for the wages of the forecourt attendants and cashiers,” added the Department of Energy.
