Santam introduces free benefits for policyholders

Santam has introduced six new SOS services for its current and new personal lines customers. South Africa’s largest short term insurer said this was to reduce risk both at home and on the road at no extra cost from the 1st of November. 

Santam’s personal policyholders received the following range of free benefits:

1.    Road assistance

This is a 24 hour contact for roadside emergency services anywhere within South Africa. Policy holders can get assistance for anything from a mechanical to electrical breakdown.


2.    Home assistance

The 24 hour helpline will assist policyholders with a call-out of service providers such as electricians, plumbers and locksmiths. The service is limited to three incidents in a year and call out cover is limited to R500.


3.    Home-drive assistance

This benefit takes policyholders home in their own vehicle in the event that they’ve had more to drink than the legal limit. This service is limited to six call-outs a year.


4.    Route assistance

If policyholders are lost they can call Santam’s 24 hour helpline within the borders of South Africa if they need directions.


5.    Medical assistance

This has been set up to provide emergency telephonic advice, transport by ambulance to hospital and also provides trauma counselling.


6.    Legal advice

Policyholders can access a 24 hour helpline which assists with legal advice on matters such as criminal offences, fines, debt, contracts, labour law, divorce, maintenance, accidents and more. The advice is given by qualified attorneys and is offered by the Legal Exchange Corporation.
