Today is World Meteorological Day and we thought we’d take a look at what the weather means for your insurance.
Below is a table of weather elements that are and aren’t covered by your insurance policy.

Wind (e.g. Tornado, strong winds) |
Solar Heating equipment in a Frost area |
Flood (e.g. Tsunami, river flooding) |
Any weather related damage in a partially roofed construction |
Hail |
Movement of Land caused by: Volume changes in clay based soil/rock caused by changes in moisture/water |
Storm |
Movement of Land caused by: Excavations other than mining excavations |
Lightning (including thunder) |
Movement of Land caused by: Removal of or weakening of pillars |
Movement of Land (Natural shifts/ human activity) |
Movement of Land caused by: normal settlement, shrinkage or expansion of dwelling |
Snow |
Movement of Land caused by: poor compaction of landfill |

Rise in the underwater water table or pressure caused by it |
Then please bear in mind that a weather related claim will also not be covered if the following either caused or contributed to the loss:
- defects in the design or construction of the building
- construction, alteration or repairs, defective workmanship or materials
- a lack of maintenance
